Roy O Trade & Astros

My first thought was just an empty feeling seeing him go, but it was necessary. Smart organizations move their players a year or so before its late, not a year or 2 after, as the Astros have now done. You've read my rants on this. It would be easy to be all negative about the trade(s) for on paper, or from what I have heard and read, lets just say they are laughing in Philly. You would think that if they were going to pay all that money they could have landed at least one top level prospect projected as a future major league all star. That doesn't seem to be the case but only time will tell. Happ is almost 28. Yea he had a darn good year last year. If he can pitch like that for 5-6 years, well then...great job Ed Wade, but I dont see that from him. The Wallace kid I've heard mixed reviews...good bat, no speed or defense..sounds like another Carlos Lee. If he can hit like Lee well that could be great as well. The young SS is tremendous athlete with bad glove. Good upside, lets pray he is our ss starting in 2013. If not, he is likely going to be big disappointment. If they don't sign Desheilds and other draft picks, well they will never go anywhere. If they hold onto Meyers and the rest, they are fools. Myers has great value now. Move him! Only time will tell.

Yikes. I think Ed traded away our cow for 3 magic beans. I hope that these beans ultimately yield a lot of success. I wish that I could know what else was out there [in terms of offers] for Roy Oswalt. . . . Anyways, The Astros have been playing .500 ball for a while now, and that in itself is encouraging. Chris Johnson is batting for average, and I think that if he moved up in the line-up, he'd walk more. Pence is coming around, and Myers has been a very pleasant surprise. I've enjoyed that Mills doesn't pull starting pitchers at the first sign of trouble. The late inning guys, out of the pen, have been good [above average.] Whether good, or bad, they got rid of Roy Oswalt. Ed needs to follow through, and unload the other two (that would officially transition the team into re-build mode). I don't think that Lance is hurting the team, but his trade value [whatever that may be] would actually benefit the team. Carlos Lee is definitely hurting the team. I understand that his contract is bad, and other teams would be apprehensive to trade for him. Well, if that's the case, bench him or let him get his groove back as a pinch hitter or during games when the outcome is determined early (blow outs).
"Nah, I don't think so. More like chewed out. I've been chewed out before."

I will miss Lance, and Roy. This is what I take from this, and I hope we can move on. Both of these guys gave their best to the city, and the Astros. The least we could do is send them to contenders, where they have a chance to win. The organization did just that. I wish them both the best of life, and success. Having said that, I have really enjoyed watching this young team learn to play at this level. As many years as I managed the Rattlers, I had to watch them learn each new level we went into. After a couple of weeks at the higher age group, they settled down and started competing. Then they started closing games out. If it got to the sixth inning with a lead, our competitors were in trouble. I can see this with the Astros right now. This team will be fine. I am excited for Pro ball again. Bob, the beans will grow. I promise. Poochpi, they are gonna surprise you! ;)

If DM listened to my philosophy we would have started rebuilding a year and half ago, and would have gotten a whole lot more for Roy O, and Berkman too, and we would have sucked just like we have anyway, but we would have gotten way more for those guys, and been far more along to being good again. Maybe you just dont comprehend buy low, sell high. I'm all for the young guys, there is a reason to at least watch these guys develop, and lose while they do it. You keep your staff ace who is having his career year. With or without him they are a 90 loss team next year. Realize he could get us more than what we got for Roy O. lets see, 90 losses and "staff ace", or 97 losses and 2-3 more pieces to a real good team in a couple years.
