LMAO!

Bob Roy's stats have gone down every year and continues to get hurt, and Wandy had his best performance last year and didn't even win 20 games. He has to prove he can do it consistently first, let alone improve his win total from a career best with an offense that lacks a hitter that had 200 hits last year. (Tejada)

I can't even believe you think Myers is going to win 17, that is laughable. He will be lucky to win 10 to 12 games. Don't you think the Phillies would have kept him if they even thought he had a chance to win 17 games? His best year for wins was 2003 with 14, and the Phillies offense is by far better then the Astros! He gives up a ton of Home Runs which doesn't bold well for him in minute maid. His era has been closer to 5 then 4 the last couple of years. What makes you think he is just going to have this career year?

I think Berkman can hit 30 if he stays healthy, but he is going to need help from Carlos Lee who needs to stay healthy and off the twinkies! I don't think Pence will get 30, and I'm curious to see if pitchers will make the adjustments like he did to improve himself last year. He is a good player.

Castro has to prove he is capable to be promoted to the major leagues for you can even pencil him, that position remains a big hole for the team. You should know from the Towles experiment that you never assume a guy is going to be good just because he has a few plate appearances.

Feliz will be an upgrade, but will not fill the void of Tejadas production.

The pitching staff isn't pretty good at all, they are horrible, most of their era's are over 4.50. Brian Moehler is absolutely horrible, he shouldn't even be starting, let alone come in for relief. His ERA was almost 6.

I would hope for Drayton to lower prices on drinks!

well bob you pretty much are banking on all the stars aligning over the Astros. if all that happens they might win after all.

No way Castro gets called up before due to money. There is a cut off during the season where it counts a year sooner to arbitration. he wont see the majors until after that date, whatever it is, at the earliest this year. he would be better served with a good year in AAA. No reason to rush him.

Yep -- pretty much banking on star alignment. Or,

What if Carpenter and Wainwright don't have Cy Young caliber seasons [concurrently] again? And, what if The Cardinals get stuck with the Matt Holliday who showed up for the post-season (the 2-12 impostor who dropped that fly ball)?

Then what? In spite of having Carpenter, Wainwright, Holliday, and Fat Albert -- they only managed to win 91 games last season in an [alleged] weak division. Management must not be doing something right -- and, it won't get any better with Big Mac (in my opinion).

... Anyhow, what then?

Are we counting on The Reds, or The Pirates to win the division? The Brewers, ..., OK, maybe (but they're not a resounding candidate -- at least not on paper, with Prince being one veggie burger away from ripping those already over-sized pants).

The Cubs ... I won't hold my breath.

...

I am crossing my fingers for the stars to align ;)

Well, I seriously doubt any team would think that two pitchers would be up for Cy Young two years in a row. Bob if you knew a little about baseball you would know that both of those pitchers stuffs are great and are considered one of the top 1, 2 combos in baseball. However, it is possible that Carp gets hurt, he has had trouble staying healthy throughout his career. If this happens it does present a problem, but their team is pretty deep and Mo would make a move probably if that happened. Carp isn't replaceable and would probably leave the door open for the cubs, and brewers.

Holiday was pressing and isn't an impostor at all. Holiday should have caught the ball regardless of the lights blinding him. He should have been wearing glasses if that were the case. You can't blame Holiday for the melt down in the playoffs. It was the entire team that played horrible.

As far as only winning 91 games...that is a great accomplishment. If you look at history not many teams win 90 plus in a season!

Anyone interested in playing fantasy baseball! Looking to replace two managers with people who will keep up with their team!

I do not dispute that Carpenter and Wainwright are a great 1, 2 punch (I personally would prefer having the two kids from San Francisco on my team though).

...

Yeah, for the sake of Cardinals' fans -- let's hope that Matt Holliday doesn't turn-out like Vinny Castilla ...

What was Holliday's average while playing for Oakland?

Holiday was batting 286 with Oakland and 13 homeruns....this was with no help in the lineup and before he went back to his original batting stance.

I like Tim Lincecum a lot. I'm very curious to see if he has longevity with his body frame because of the type of pitcher he is!

Besides a long-shot for their own division, they have to deal with so many other better teams. The Giants may have the best starting staff in all of baseball. Zito pitched pretty good, Sanchez is a young flame throwing lefty continuing to improve like Wandy has, with a no-hitter on his resume, and Madison Baumbgartner is one of the highest rated prospects in baseball, far better than the Stros Bud Norris. The Rockies are definitely better, so are the Giants, and the retooled Dbacks could be as well. Philly, Florida and Atlanta are definitely better, and who knows what the Mets can do if they can be healthy.

At least the season is quickly approaching.

just do me a favor and stay off the astro bandwagon......unlike last year! i won't be wasting any more time with closed minds.

If it makes you feel happy to predict 4-5th place for the hometown team i hope you get your just rewards.

your the one with the closed mind, not me. you can't even admit they are a longshot. i did start this thread talking about a good move, and have stated they have talent, and if everything works perfectly, well they certainly have a shot....but how often does it all work out perfectly. they just arent talented enough to survive everything not going right. there is no bandwagon for me, I'm a fan of the team. I want them to win. I just don't expect a playoff run from this bunch.

only 1 more week till the season starts.

so far, Berkman has had surgury, and Roy O, has a hammy, making him look more like Roy Old.
Wandy looks bad, but I don't worry bout preseason, and think he will be fine. Paulino looks good, and he is a huge Xfactor if the team is going to be any good. Bats look good, but again its preseason. Good to see Towles hitting well and gaining confidence. The bullpen hasn't figured itself out, but it could end up being a strength, at the worst, not a big weakness. This team has no depth.

This is a below .500 team. I hope I'm wrong.

Technically, at 0-0, they're 2 games away from being .500 --

...

The closest to .500 would be 1 game away.

E.g., a record of 1-0, or 0-1 (the closest they could be to .500 for the rest of the year).

...

I hope that it is your wife [and not you] helping the kids study for their kindergarten standardized exit test.
